As the clock struck midnight, bringing 2016 to a close, I couldn’t help but get excited. Actually, I admit it was 11 and I was ringing in the new year watching a broadcast of the fireworks on the east coast so I could go to bed. Gone are the days of staying up until midnight and welcoming the new year in with friends. Instead, we had our celebration with the kids around 7:30, put them to bed and stayed up for as long as we could keep our eyes open before calling it a night. We lead a wild life in our house. But, I digress.
I was excited because with the start of the new year means a fresh year with so much potential. I wonder what experiences are in store for us. What places are we going to see? Who are we going to meet? We already have some travel plans in the works and we hope to add some more as the year progresses. We also intend to do a lot of local travel again this year, exploring the great city of Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. Here’s what’s in store for us this year.
Disney Cruise to the Bahamas
We’re kicking off the year with our much anticipated cruise in February to the Bahamas with Disney Cruise Line. We’ve been anxiously awaiting this trip for months so we’re excited that it is finally around the corner.
D lived in Puerto Rico for two years before we met. He’s been meaning to take me back to visit since we got married. We almost went for our 5th anniversary but at the time, I was pregnant with Buddy. Unfortunately, I was not blessed with the easy pregnancy gene. I get very sick during my pregnancies necessitating a drastic modification of our travel plans. But 2017 is the year we’re making it happen.
Every other summer my family gets together for a reunion. Between my parents and my four siblings’ families, there are 29 of us, all together under one roof. The cousins love being together- regardless of age- and the adults enjoy four days of adult conversation while our children disappear for hours only turning up again for meals. This year, our reunion is taking place in the Seattle area– where my siblings and I grew up. I always look forward to my time spent in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
After the reunion, we have a day trip to Vancouver, British Columbia in the works before we head back home. I haven’t been to British Columbia for years so I’ve been itching to go back to explore it with the kids. I only wish we had more than one day to spend there.
Disneyland with D’s family
We’re normally a Disney World family but we decided to switch things up this year and travel to the other coast for our second Disney trip of the year. D’s family will be joining us for three days at the happiest place on Earth in California this August.
On top of these trips, we are also hoping to squeeze in at least one long weekend in a neighboring state- perhaps Michigan or Indiana. And of course, we’ll do a lot of day trips to Chicago and the surrounding areas. After that, who knows. But as I mentioned in my New Year travel resolution, I will say yes to any opportunity I have to travel.
Where are you going in 2017?
