One of my favorite things about traveling is discovering new places to eat. I spend more time on travel websites than I care to admit planning where our family will eat when we take our trips. While on our trip to Ohio, we tried out a few “new to us” places but it is a breakfast place that still makes me salivate just thinking about it.
What attracted me to First Watch was the health conscious options on the menu. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day but, let’s face it, most breakfast joints aren’t especially known for being healthy. I came prepared to start my day right by choosing one of the options from the healthy menu.
First Watch has locations in many states across the United States. We dined at their Macedonia location and we have nothing but good things to say about it. It opens early but only serves breakfast and lunch. Although their Macedonia location was very basic in decor, it had a very trendy feel to it. I loved the open space- there was plenty of room to move around without bumping into other tables or people.
When we first arrived, a hostess promptly led us to our table. All of the servers were very friendly and responsive to our needs. Shortly after being seated, our server came to take our drink orders. We then scanned the menu while Ladybug colored happily on her kids menu. I’m always impressed when a restaurant considers their younger customers.
Remember when I mentioned that I was looking forward to eating a healthy breakfast? Well, my resolve weakened when I looked at the other options on the menu. After going back and forth between two different types of pancakes, I finally decided on the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. I also ordered a hot chocolate. When my food arrived, my mouth dropped. Placed before me was a large plate with two pancakes bigger than my head with a creamy lemon sauce slathered on top. The powdered sugar and strawberries made it even more appealing. It looked so good that I dug in for a few bites before remembering to take a picture for this post. And they tasted just as good as they looked.
I must also mention the hot chocolate. As someone who doesn’t drink coffee but is happily addicted to hot chocolate, I have tasted many versions of the chocolatey goodness. The hot chocolate at First Watch was pretty tasty. I knew it had to be good since the cup placed before me had so much whipped cream that I couldn’t see the chocolate underneath. And the added swirl of chocolate syrup? Yum! It wasn’t the best hot chocolate I’ve ever tasted but it was still very enjoyable.
Although I told myself I shouldn’t eat it all, my breakfast was too good to let go to waste. Somehow (I’m not sure how) I finished every bite. I was a little stuffed at the end but ready to work it off with an after breakfast hike. Breakfast at First Watch was the perfect way to fuel our full day of hiking and fun in Cuyahoga Valley.
How do you like to start your day? Do you prefer a big breakfast or a quick bite on your way out the door?
Pin for later.
